Greetings LHS Class of 1989,
Consider yourself treated to the next installment of the 20th Reunion newsletter. Think of all the poor souls not as fortunate as you -- who graduated in other years or from other schools. Tragic, isn't it?
So here goes. There is a lot happening. The float building crew is hard at work painting, paper-macheing, building, etc. Work is taking place at the McKim barn on Meriden Road if you have time to stop in and help out. Here is the current schedule when at least Christine or Laura will be there:
Friday 5/29 5:30-8 pm
Tuesday 6/2 9-11:30am, 6-8 pm
Wednesday 6/3 6-8 pm
Thursday 6/4 6-8 pm
Friday 6/5 6-8 pm
Saturday 6/6 all day 10am to 5pm
Sunday 6/7 all day 10am to 5pm
Monday 6/8 6-8 pm
Tuesday 6/9 6-8 pm (All day if needed)
Wednesday 6/10 6-8 pm
Thursday 6/11 6-8 pm
Friday 6/12 all afternoon 1pm (or earlier!) to when its finally done!!!!
The floats are to line up at 9:30 am but participants will not need to be present until 10:45 when judging begins. The parade starts at noon and lasts for however long it takes to go around town (an hour? I don't remember). After that, disassembly of the float will take place and we may need a pickup or two (Lebanon residents) to bring things to the dump. After that, we'll head on over to Storr's Pond for the...
I have been telling people that the barbecue begins at 1pm but that may be a little ambitious since those of us who will set up will still be dealing with the float. So if you get there before we do, make yourself at home and we'll be there shortly.
The results are in and we have a pretty good idea of how many people are coming. Based on the feedback you have given us we have decided on the following: The price will be $8/adult and $5/child. (For example, a family of four, two adults two kids, would be $26.) This will include:
*We thought of having one of us do it, but the point is not to get stuck behind the grill but rather spend time with each other.
**We felt it was important with all of us enjoying each others' company that the extra piece of mind of having a trained lifeguard at the site to watch the kids in the water was worth the small expense.
***There will be enough for each class member (unless a lot more of you show than we expected!), but there will be extras for sale if you want more than one -- that is, bring an extra five bucks just in case.
This does NOT include beverages or side dishes. Most people voted this way so for those who didn't (mostly people who will be traveling) all I can say is grab something at Shaw's on your way through. ;) Please, Please, PLEASE don't everyone bring a bag of chips -- we will have that stuff. Be creative! I heard Ray makes a mean potato salad! (For those with food allergies -- I think the safest thing to do would be just to partake in your own sides.)
A note to all the people who have already donated: Thank you!!! All of you have donated more than enough to cover yourselves so please just email me your numbers (number of adults and children who will be attending) I will make a note of it.
A special note to those whom this recession has hit the hardest: We have attempted to make this as inexpensive as we could while still being worthwhile. Hopefully this will not be a hardship for you but if you find yourself deciding against coming because you don't think you can come up with the money, email me and we'll work it out. We are more interested in you than your money.
To pay online, go to the leb89.com website: http://leb89.com/?q=node/7
Click on the appropriate "Add To Cart" button. It will take you to another screen where you can put in quantities. If you are bringing children, please click on "Continue Shopping" on the next screen and click on the Child "Add To Cart" button. Lastly, the float building committee is laying out some money for building materials, candy, etc. If you'd like to help defray that cost, please click on the Donation button as well and add as much as you'd like. Any money leftover will be donated to LHS in some form.
If you do not feel comfortable paying online, please send me a check (address listed on the website). Sending me an email letting me know it's on the way would also help. I would prefer NOT to deal with a lot of money on the 13th if at all possible. After all, like you, I am there to hang out with friends, not be a bursar. (Nor do I want to get stiffed!) So please, make every effort to pay ahead of time so there is less stuff we need to put on our credit cards.
Confusing emails about Alumni day activities?
It seems that there has been some confusion about the emails from the Lebanon Alumni Association board. They are planning LHS Alumni activities as well and we are trying not to conflict with those. For more information there is an alumni website at http://www.lebnhalumni.com/.
You are more than welcome to attend the Lebanon Alumni functions in addition to the class of 1989 BBQ.
I hope this clears up the confusion; but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the '89 adhoc committee members.
Just to make things a little more interesting, can you come up with (preferably multiple choice) trivia questions relating to LHS and/or the 1980s? Examples:

b) The gymnasium

Please try to stay away from inside jokes, and obviously don't give me any questions that are likely to offend people, especially if they make fun of me. I will try to compile these and make them available at the barbecue. If nothing else they may spark some great conversations!
Lastly, please try to make one last effort to reach out to long lost classmates. We're going to have a great turnout but we want to be able to say when all is said and done that we did our best to include everyone.
See you in (less than) two weeks!!!
